UQ Research Data Manager

Provides information about how to use the UQ Research Data Manager (UQRDM) to store and manage research data for research projects.

All users will receive notification that their storage has been provisioned. Each storage service selected provides 1TB of storage. Instructions to access storage allocations are available on the UQRDM project record. Login to UQRDM and open the project record. You can then click on the tile next to each storage service for details on how to access.

Each allocation folder is named using the unique combination of a short code and a storage code. The short code is created and entered by the record owner, and consists of 6-10 alphanumeric characters. This code cannot be altered. The storage code is provided by ITS, consists of 5 alphanumeric characters and cannot be altered. This combined code folder name appears in your folder directory in the format 6-10 character short code followed by a 5 character storage code. (e.g. RDMUQ2017-I0001).

Access for UQ users and UQ collaborators

For UQ users there are multiple ways to access the storage:

1. Via a mapped drive - easy access to your work from any St Lucia based computer.

2. Via the UQRDM cloud - useful for accessing your work when you are off campus.

3. Via UQRDM cloud sync client set up on your desktop or mobile devices  - for times when you are working offline.

4. Via HPC facilities (note: only for projects where it has been indicated in the project record that the data needs to be mounted on HPC facilities).

Access for external collaborators

External collaborators can access the storage via:

1. UQRDM Cloud (web interface)

2. UQRDM cloud sync client

Any files that you add to the mapped drive are synced, and will appear via the cloud, and vice versa. However, please note that when a file is added to the mapped drive initially, it may take up to 3 hours to first appear in the cloud. Following this first file upload, any changes will appear immediately on the mapped drive and in the cloud.

If you experience any difficulties with syncing, please contact ITS Support.

Detailed instructions for these methods are provided in the next pages of this guide.
