If a printed score isn't available, you can also try searching online for digitised music scores. Digitisation projects across international collections mean that an increasing number of scores are now available online. Here is a small selection of digital scores sites:

Contains the most important classical music scores, manuscripts, and previously unpublished material, allowing for the study and analysis of more than 45,000 musical scores. With full, study, piano, and vocal scores.
Music Australia
Hosted by the National Library of Australia, Music Australia contains Australian scores prior to 1930.
IMSLP Petrucci Music Library
Digital Scores and Libretti, Loeb Music Library, Harvard University
Contains early editions and manuscript copies of music from the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.
Vocal Music Instrumentation Index
An index of early vocal music catalogued by a team of performers, musicologists, and music librarians. Search by instrumentation, voice, language, composer and work type. Provides links to IMSLP where available, and references collected editions, making little-known resources more discoverable.
