ORCID for hospital staff

Information and guidance for Hospital staff on ORCID

What are author identifiers?

Author identifiers are unique identifiers assigned to authors and researchers to solve the author ambiguity issue within the scholarly community due to researchers sharing the same names. The benefits of such a system are:

  • establish your identity as a researcher
  • get credit for your research activity
  • improve your publication workflow

There are several author identifiers, the most used and integrated system is ORCID.

You can add publications to your ORCID and link author identifiers

Add your works

Add works to your ORCID record

  1. Use the Search & link wizard to import your publications via digital object identifiers (DOIs), PubMed ID, Crossref or other author identifiers (e.g. Web of Science ResearcherID, or Scopus Author Identifier)
  2. Auto-update your publication list by granting Crossref permissions - a message will be sent to your ORCID inbox from Crossref to authorise this (tip: make sure your ORCID ID is added to manuscripts submitted to publishers)
  3. Link to Web of Science to add any peer review activities associated with your Web of Science ResearcherID (these peer review activities were previously managed in Publons which has now been integrated into ResearcherID)
  4. Import funding information using the Search & link DimensionsWizard

Link your Google Scholar Profile

Google Scholar profile

Add your Google Scholar public profile URL link under Websites and social links in your ORCID.

A Google Scholar profile enables you to keep track of citations to your articles and provides an online presence for your scholarly work.

Web of Science Researcher Profile (ResearcherID)

A Web of Science Researcher Profile (using ResearcherID) is a valuable addition to your ORCID profile if you have publications indexed in Web of Science.

Manage your Web of Science Researcher Profile to add your publications, track your citations, and track, verify and showcase your peer review and editorial contributions for academic journals (formerly Publons).

Manually adding works

We encourage you to first use the automatic linking available through the "Search and Link" option. This will greatly reduce/eliminate the risk of errors that do occur with manual entry.

ORCID support have created instructions on how to add works manually.
