AI literacy guidelines

Guidelines to enhance the knowledge, literacy and capabilities of UQ students and staff on artificial intelligence (AI).

Acknowledge AI

You understand your ethical obligations when using AI tools or content for assessment or in published work. You know there are different ways to acknowledge or reference your use of AI.

Capabilities

4.1 Document AI use appropriately Systematically record AI use (i.e. prompt strategy, including AI tool, description of how you used the tool, prompt(s) used, date).
4.2 Understand the importance of acknowledging AI use Understand that acknowledging and referencing AI protects your academic reputation, demonstrates your integrity and helps you and your teachers understand your learning process.
4.3 Acknowledge or cite AI use appropriately

Distinguish between acknowledging and referencing AI use.

Adhere to best practice when acknowledging AI use (i.e. assignment coversheet, form, template or table).

Adhere to referencing styles when citing AI use.

Follow discipline-specific protocols for citing scholarly works.

4.4 Understand the key IP issues and policy considerations when using AI in published research

Understand that the use of AI tools should be consistent with the UQ’s Intellectual Property Policy and should not prevent you from licensing your work.

Recognise that AI content may infringe copyright and may not be protected by copyright law in Australia.

Understand that only a natural person is considered an inventor under Australia’s patent laws.

Identify and apply advice from funding bodies and publishers in relation to AI use.
