Digital Research Notebooks

Use Digital Research Notebooks, via the UQ Research Data Manager system, to organise, store, curate and share all your project's research or laboratory data including working documents, images, observations, and data in any format.

DRN instructions for Non-UQ users

External collaborators that are added to a UQRDM project record where a notebook has been provisioned will receive an email from UQRDM to explain they have been granted access (as per UQ collaborators). This email should contain a link to login to LabArchives.

There are different instructions that external collaborators should follow depending on whether they are a new or existing LabArchives user.  Instructions for:

  1. Users from institutions that have enabled single sign on (e.g. University of Sydney, University of Adelaide)
  2. Existing users of LabArchives (that are not from an institution that has enabled single sign on)
  3. New LabArchives users (that are not from an institution that has enabled single sign on)

Instructions for users from institutions that have enabled single sign on

If you are a member of an institution that has enabled Single Sign On (see list of institutions below) follow these steps:

  1. Click on the link in the email to login to LabArchives
  2. Select the relevant institution from the dropdown list (e.g. University of Sydney, Monash University)

  1. You should then be directed to your institution's single sign on page. Once logged in, you should see the UQ notebook/s that have been shared with you, along with other notebooks that have previously been created/shared with you in the Notebook Navigator.

For example, a University of Sydney user should be able to see their notebooks created at the University of Sydney, as well as the UQ notebook/s that have been shared with them.

Note: some institutions will automatically be directed to their single sign on page, depending on that institution's settings in LabArchives.

Instructions for existing users of LabArchives

If you are an existing user of LabArchives, that is not from an institution that has enabled single sign on follow these steps:

  1. Click on the link in the email to login to LabArchives
  2. Enter your email under "Sign in". You will then be prompted to enter your password
  3. Once logged in, you should see the UQ notebook/s that have been shared with you, along with other notebooks that have previously been created/shared with you in the Notebook Navigator.

Instructions for new LabArchives users

If you are a new user without a LabArchives account (and are not from an institution that has enabled single sign on) follow these instructions:

  1. Go to LabArchives and select sign in.
  2. Choose the "sign up for free" account option. You should then proceed to create your account using the same email address you use for UQRDM.

  1. Once you have created an account, you can login and see the UQ notebook/s that have been shared with you in your Notebook Navigator.
