EECS coursework thesis

This guide shows you how to search effectively and use Library resources to find literature for your thesis. It covers searching databases, Library Search and citing information.

Library Search

Databases

The library's databases allow you to search for journal articles, conference papers and some book chapters on a particular topic.

Video tutorials for a selection of databases

Note: The majority of videos listed below are produced by organisations external to the University of Queensland. Be aware that the videos may demonstrate features that are not available in databases provided by the University of Queensland.

The search techniques shown in the videos may be different to the step-by-step process of conducting a systematic review that is outlined in the tabs in this guide.

Review articles

Review articles are useful for:

  • identifying key researchers
  • outlining gaps and research advances
  • identifying emerging trends

You can find review and other research articles by searching UQ Library Search or specialist databases:

When you are searching add the words "review article" or "literature review". In some databases you can  refine your search to select these as document type.

To expand your literature search, consult the reference lists of relevant theses, review papers, journal articles or books.

If the Library does not hold a journal article that you require access to, you can obtain most articles through Document Delivery. It is free to students. You can also request materials if they are held in the Warehouse or at a library location off St Lucia campus.

Theses

Consult previous written theses for example literature reviews, what's already been published, and ideas for structure.

International theses may also be openly accessible online.

If a particular thesis is not available online you may submit Document Delivery Request to the UQ Library.
